Black Walnut Throne
Black Walnut Burl
This is a very large and rare black walnut specimen from the Bradshaw Mountains near Prescott Arizona. This burl is caused by a disease (virus in the soil) that makes the tree grow abnormally. Often burls form rounded growths with hundreds of small dormant shoots emerging from the trunk or root ball. It’s probably been dead for 80 years or more before I found it. I hand carved it in to a chair leaving as many of the natural features as possible. The finish is a traditional hand rubbed Danish oil finish.
